Field note
The first 30 seconds are the whole program

Every cold protocol we publish starts at thirty seconds. Not three minutes, not "as long as you can take it". Thirty seconds, end of negotiation.
That number is not about the cold. It is about day four. The people who quit rarely quit during a session — they quit the night before one, replaying yesterday's heroic five-minute stand and deciding they do not have it in them today. The protocol collapses at the ceiling you set on day one.
The math of showing up
Thirty seconds, five times a week, beats five minutes once. Not because short sessions do something special — because repeated sessions build the only thing this practice is actually for: the reflex of doing the uncomfortable thing on schedule, without a debate.
Our ramp adds fifteen-second steps, week over week. It looks slow on paper. In the logbook it looks like something rarer: a streak that survives a bad week.
What to do tonight
End your normal shower with thirty seconds of full cold. Exhale longer than you inhale. Do not check the clock — count four slow breaths instead. Then write one line somewhere you will see tomorrow: day one, done.
That line is the program. Everything else is a ramp.
